Eideiri is a high fantasy world setting defined by cyclical apocalyptic change, an extend dilunisolar calendar with prolonged seasons, and the adventures of my players in the many pathfinder campaigns we have done. All work here is merely proof of ideation and is subject to change. Below is an outline of the religious and spiritual context of the world. The dilunisolar calendar can be found here. World geography and history is still to come.

Religion & Spirituality on Eideiri

Foreword

The world of Eideiri lies in a constant state of metaphysical and physical reconstruction. The ever changing cycle of eras leaves the terrain hostile to its inhabitants. These catastrophic events come and go in cycles, often overlapping. As a result, unrelenting change is the primary defining feature of the world. Spirituality on Eideiri is defined by the many interpretations of this constant metamorphosis. The only constant is the inevitability of change.

Cosmologically, the world of Eideiri orbits in the center ring of a large and complex solar system. Two moons, Asmir and Desmir, referred to as the lunar moon and the dilunar moon respectively, revolve in asynchronous orbit around the planet. Asmir is relatively large for a moon and revolves in a tight obloid with a significant wobble. Desmir, in contrast, is much smaller and has a much wider orbit with a large berth and a very limited wobble. The dance of these two moons exert great geological pressure on the plates of Eideiri.

Furthermore, Eideiri travels very slowly around its sun. Each calendar year lasts approximately 3240 days. A more complete dilunisolar calendar can be found here. Due to the nature of this prolonged solar rotation, the seasons are lengthy and intense with each divided into a lunar and dilunar season each with their own minor and major months to mimic the lunar and dilunar dance.

Finally, there is a great deal of magical influence on the planet of Eideri. Several great beings call the planet home in one way or another. These gods are undeniable forces of nature who would exert their influence to those who would serve them for deific political gains. With magic deeply ingrained in the fabric of every ecosystem, it is impossible to tell exactly how much influence these gods have over the world. However, they are known to exist and faith is a lot more than merely believing in them.

Timeline

Scholars and theologians have deciphered that life as it is currently known is the fourth iteration of existence on Eideiri. It is not known precisely how the first three failed, but it is generally understood that deific bodies such as the gods are also fleeting with time. As with the races of Eideiri, the gods of Eideiri are a callous mixture of those who have evolved to thrive in current conditions, those who are still evolving, and anachronisms who have not yet died off.

Devotion on Eideiri is largely racially agnostic. Most species prefer to acknowledge and abide by the will of the gods as a collective, following basic universal principles of goodness. Each god bears a unique domain and while some might be more present for an individual, they are all best not forgotten in ritual. However, not even the gods are impervious to the passing of eras.

It is believed that the passing eras is marked by the reincarnation of the gods. With each new incarnation, the gods are born again in new configurations of life such that they might share a destiny in other ways. What might be born siblings in one lifetime would be born rivals or partners in another. The duration of these incarnations roughly aligns with the passing of eras, suggesting a causal relationship between deific absence and mass death on Eideiri.

The chronocycle

This passing of a generation of gods is known to theologians as Chronocyclical Rebirth. The exact number of chronocycles each god possesses is unknown. What is known, however, is that the number is greatly reduced from what it was before and the gods have grown fearful of their own mortality. Elder gods, who struggle to have enough influence to exert to merely continue their existence, are believed to have lived for significantly longer chronocycles.

The standard chronocycle follows a typical pattern of Creation, Abundance, Turmoil, and Convergence. Despite the progress of civilizations, all life on Eideiri is subject to this pattern. Transitions between each step in the cycle can be geologically and spiritually violent, but extinctions appear when the cycle is broken. As such, the passing of each era is hailed as a positive sign. Damages can be repaired and wounds healed in the typical chronocycle. Extinction cycles are final and generally absolute.

Defenses from the chronocycle exist in the form of sanctuaries cast into sacred sites on Eideiri. Often, large cities will deploy extravagant systems of magic to protect themselves from catastrophic destruction at each step in the cycle. Some even go as far as to exist in extraplanar dimensions with a network of gates to Eideiri.

Understanding and interacting within the chronocylce is a highly sought after magical power which often finds itself manifest in other disciplines. It is believed that there are pockets of temporally manipulative gasses along the revolution of Eideiri. When the world collides, these powers are most realized and something as small as the will of the people, or the absence thereof, can be enough to erase entire gods from history.

Eras

The Modern Era

Of all eras of time throughout history, the modern era is filled with the most diversity in life. This is largely due to the placidity of the subscycles of Creation and Abundance. Relative peace has held the world for a period of a few thousand years. The old gods have been dormant in this cycle and the realm of celestial beings has been quiet. Given their opportunity to shape the world, the new gods of this era have yet to play a large role in history.

Civilization is divided steeply between ever-changing wildlands and long-standing magically protected cities. The cities are large and densely populated with extensive magical systems protecting them from the natural impediments of the world. Each city is built upon the ruins of ancient civilizations and is believed to have lasted for numerous chronocycles. Although each is very well known, they are few and far between and most peoples live beyond their boundaries.

The open world, largely unexplored in modern times, is settled by many small factions who compete with each other for natural resources. These peoples are divided by region, race, and religion, but also by the struggle of the things they have had to do to survive. Stories of these struggles are passed down and alliances are forged and broken on the grounds of ancient history.

The oceans are harsh and filled with monsters and have resulted in very limited sea travel. Only recently have explorers begun mapping nearby lands and it has proven to be a very fatal occupation. All waters are known to be host to mythic creatures and travelers must be heavily guarded by magic.

Turmoil

Turmoil in the modern era is defined by a stark change in ambience in the world of Eideiri. Whereas creation and abundance were placid relative to other cycles, turmoil started very explosively with the death of a god at infancy in their rebirth. Furthermore, this death was particularly unorthodox as it was caused by an angel. These events have turned the gods into a panic in fear of their own mortality and has set Eideiri into a very hostile environment. The many plates of the world are colliding against one another in an attempt to bring the gods closer and this has released untold dormant monstrosities into the ecosystems. Peoples of all types are fleeing to the great cities in droves and those who remain in the wilds are taking advantage of the power vacuums left behind. Death itself came to the material plane only to realize that its greatest servants, desperate people, are doing more than it ever could. The gods who remain and their devotees have since adapted to this new paradigm.
